According to reports in the American media, LeBron James has donated $41.8 million and has become the world's 6th most charitable athlete.
"It's the reason I do what I do. These students have big dreams, and I'm happy to do everything I can to help them get there. They're going to have to earn it, but I'm excited to see what these kids can accomplish knowing that college is in their futures," James was quoted as saying about his charity work to send children to college.
James, who won 2 Olympic golds (Beijing 2008, London 2012), will help 1,100 kids from his foundation.
"The scholarship will cover tuition and the university's general service fee - approximately $9,500 per year. All in all, the scholarship should cover the costs for 1,100 kids, which will cost his foundation a total of $41.8 million," a report on "TrueActivist" website said.
31-year-old James plays for Cleveland Cavaliers in the National Basketball Association's (NBA) league and has already won 3 titles and 4 Most Valuable Player awards.
Yuvraj, who on Wednesday (August 3) read about James' charity work, wrote on Twitter, "Just read that lebron James foundation @KingJames has donated 41 million dollars to send 1100 children to school ! Hats off you legend."
With Olympics 2016 set to start on August 5 in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro, James will be missing from American basketball team. After winning the NBA title this year with Cavaliers he had decided not to take part in the Games having featured in 3 consecutive Olympics (2004, 2008, 2012).
