Beckham's goal highlights Galaxy win

By Staff
Los Angele, April 4: David Beckham scored his first goal in the Major League Soccer (MLS) play for the Los Angeles Galaxy Thursday night in Carson near Los Angeles.

Beckham took a pass from Landon Donovan and put a shot from just outside the penalty area past San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Joe Cannon in the ninth minute. Beckham assisted on Donovan's goal in the 37th minute. The capacity crowd of 27,000 for the Galaxy's home opener included basketball star Kobe Bryant. Beckham was limited to two assists in five MLS games during his injury-marred 2007 season, his first in the league, and was held scoreless in a 4-0 season-opening loss to the Colorado Rapids Saturday at Commerce City, Colo.

Beckham also scored a goal and had an assist in the Galaxy's 2-0 victory over D.C. United in a Super Liga semifinal Aug. 15.
