Beckham backs Rooney to fire England to World Cup glory

By Super Admin

Milan, Feb 18(ANI): England midfielder David Beckham has backed red-hot striker Wayne Rooney to fire the national towards World Cup glory.

Rooney has scored 25 goals so far this season and Beckham believes that the 24-year-old is out to prove he is the best player in the world.

"Burnout won't be a problem. Wayne is ready for any game. It doesn't matter how many matches he's played or will be involved in until the end of the season - he'll be ready," The Sun quoted Beckham, as saying.

"Of course, he can sustain that level until the middle of July. He is only 24 - he should be able to. Wayne looks after himself and works hard. The way he plays on the field is how he plays in training - and that's why he's so good," he added.

The duo faced each other in the AC Milan-Man U game at Milan on Tuesday, which was swept in Manchester United's favour by Rooney's destructive skills.

Rooney's two goals steered United to a 3-2 Champions League win, their first win at the San Siro.

Talking about Rooney's performance in the game, Beckham said: "Wayne was exceptional. You give him chances and he'll score. That is the way he is. That is the way his mind works."

"I hope he's a contender for World Player of the Year and European Player of the Year. I'd love to see him win every possible title," he added. (ANI)
