Bengaluru, August 23: Bengaluru FC beat April 25 SC 3-0 at home in the first leg of the AFC Cup inter-zonal semifinal at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Wednesday.

In the match held amidst a heavy downpour, skipper Sunil Chhetri gave the Blues the lead in the 33rd minute by converting from the spot.

The penalty was given after Udanta Singh was brought down inside the box by the North Korean club.

Udanta made it 2-0 for the West Block Blues in the 51st minute with a superb finish while Lenny Rodrigues made it 3-0 in the 78th minute after connecting Chhetri's cross.

Spanish head coach Albert Roca handed debuts to five new signings with Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Rahul Bheke, Dimas Delgado, Erik Paartalu and Antonio Dovale all featuring in the starting eleven as it eventually turned out to be a dance in the rain as the following video indicates.

Competing in their third successive AFC Cup knockout rounds, Bengaluru FC are aiming to go one better than last year when they lost to Iraq's Air Force Club in the final held at Doha.

And going to the return leg to be held in Pyongyang on September 13, the Blues hold the aces after the convincing win at their fortress.

The North Korean side SC are appearing in their first-ever AFC Cup, although the Pyongyang-based club had previously appeared in the now defunct Asian Club Championship, achieving a best-ever fourth-place finish in 1991.

The winners from this tie will take on the winners of the match between Filipino side Ceres Negros and Tajikistan's FC Istiklol in the inter-zonal final to be held on September 27.

Fans who braved the rains took to Twitter to praise BFC for their resounding win and they were joined by goalkeeper Sandhu who made his debut and skipper Chhetri, the architect of the victory.
