London, Mar 21: Chelsea are still alive and kicking at the English Premier League. On Mar 20, they crushed a toothless Manchester City 2-1 to sustain their hopes of retaining the Premier League title.
Chelsea are nine points behind table-toppers Manchester United with a game in hand and still to play them at Old Trafford. Placed third in the table, they are on 54 points, four points below second-placed Arsenal and One point and place above Manchester City.
The match went in sync with the reputation of the two sides termed as with the best defence in the division. It was thus no surprise that majority of the action was the passage of the football from one to another without a goal being scored until the 78th minute.
Chelsea were always on the run but never quite managed to create a chance. In a bid to end the deadlock, Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelloti pushed in Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka for the final 20 minutes of the match and removed Fernando Torres who is yet to score his first goal for Chelsea.
David Luiz scored the first goal for Chelsea when he headed a Drogba shot off a free kick. Later in the stoppage time, Ramires went past some disinterested tackles and netted the second goal for Chelsea.
The results capped off a disappointing week for Manchester City who were also knocked out of the Europa League by Dynamo Kiev on Mar 17.
In another EPL clash on Mar 20, Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory at Sunderland.
