Bengaluru, August 13: Premier League champions Chelsea started their season with an unexpected loss against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday (August 12).
The Blues were stunned by the Clarets at home who took back home with all three points courtesy to their 3-2 win.
Chelsea saw two of their key men Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas being sent off but still managed to pull two back from being 3-0 down and the man who provided them the firepower off the bench was none other than club-record signing Alvaro Morata.
Morata made his mark after replacing Michy Batshuayi scoring one goal and setting up another but his efforts were not enough to help the Blues salvage any point from the game.
It was surprising to see the club-record signing not starting the game whom club legend Frank Lampard tipped for success earlier in the day.
"Being the main striker for a club like Chelsea, like Manchester United, like Real Madrid, like Barcelona, brings a lot to it," Lampard said.
"That's the pressure he probably hasn't had. I know he was at Juventus but I don't think he was ever completely their No1 striker. At Real Madrid, certainly, he was in and out, so the main pressure for Morata is to say, 'Here I am, I'm the No.1 striker' and I can take this all on", continued Lampard.
"I think he's got all the tools to do that. He's got great movement and he's a good finisher, so he now needs to adapt to the Premier League. I do think he's got the natural talent to come in and score the 20-plus goals that Diego Costa scored last year."
Chelsea have to regroup after their shocking start to the title-defence but Morata has certainly impressed on his Premier League debut.
