EPL: Barcelona, Juventus chase Manchester United's Vidic

Manchester, Oct 11: Barcelona and Juventus are planning a January swoop for injured Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic, but the 30-year-old Serbia international will not leave Old Trafford, according to his agent Silvano Martina.

Vidic, 30, has been linked with a move to the Italian champions and Spanish giants since the transfer window shut in August. The Red Devils captain, who missed nearly half of last season through injury, is currently sidelined for 2 months following a surgery on his knee.

"Vidic is not playing at this time because he's had surgery, so he's only thinking about his recovery and not about the transfer market," Mail Online quoted Martina as saying.

The 30-year-old Serbian is expected to return before the New Year with Barcelona and Juventus waiting in line to strengthen their defence with a shock bid for the United centre-back. The Spanish giants are currently out of first choice defenders after Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique were ruled out through injuries.

"Juventus are complete with their non-EU players for this season and it is highly unlikely they will make a bid for Vidic, therefore, I can categorically rule out any interest from them," Martina said.

Vidic has made 248 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions since joining in 2005 from Spartak Moscow.
