London, Feb 10: Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton and Arsenal are battling it out for a place in the Champions League next season. With 12 games left and seven points between these four teams, the race to finish in the top-four hots up.
Chelsea are currently third with 49 points, just one above London rivals Tottenham and four points behind Manchester City. The Blues have faced ups and downs throughout the season. On current form, Chelsea have won just twice in their last five league games. They are likely hold on to their place but face daunting tasks City, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Tottenham have been impressive this season with consistent performance and a winning mentality. Spurs recently won back-to-back games after three consecutive draws. Lack of strikers upfront forced Andre Villas-Boas to play Gareth Bale upfront and the Welsh winger hasn't disappointed, scoring the winner against West Brom and Newcastle United. Spurs have a clear chance of clinching a Champions League spot if they maintain this kind of momentum. However, crucial games against Liverpool, Chelsea and City could all change things towards the end of the season.
Arsenal suffered their worst start to a season under Arsene Wenger but are slowly and steadily climbing their way up the table. The Gunners are struggling but somehow manage to get the result, like they did against Stoke and Sunderland recently. Arsenal are still in the Champions League this season, facing last year's runners up Bayern Munich. Still four points behind north London rivals Spurs, Gunners have a lot to do to close the gap, which includes games against Spurs and Manchester United.
Everton have lost only three games this season but the number of draws, 12 in 25 games, is frustrating for any side. Back-to-back draws against Swansea and Southampton, a narrow win against West Brom and the thrilling come back against Aston Villa has been Everton's recent form. The Toffees have a low conversion rate upfront, with only 33%, the fourth worst in the division. With little more clinical finishes, Everton could have won more matches and been higher up the table.
