EPL: What's wrong with Manchester City this season

Manchester, Oct 4: The Blues of Manchester need to up their game after a poor and slow start to the new campaign. Roberto Mancini's men sit at fourth place in the Premier League table, four points below leaders Chelsea and have earned just 1 point in two games in the UEFA Champions League group stages.

Thanks to Joe Hart's brilliance against German opposition Borussia Dortmund. The England number 1 saved City from dropping to the Europa League while a controversial penalty decision kept the Citizens in the Champions League. The 'Group of Death' is seriously testing City's ability to survive.

City have conceded a goal in every game this season, winning just three games in nine overall. Unlike last terms charged up team, City have failed to maintain that momentum this time especially at the back.

City have comeback six times to earn either a draw or manage to win. The reigning champions crashed out of the Capital One Cup after an embarrassing 2-4 loss to Aston Villa at the Etihad. However, prior to the match boss Mancini mentioned the League Cup was not so important.

This shows the Italians main focus is Europe's biggest competition, the Champions League. But his men first gave away the lead twice against Real Madrid, eventually losing to the Spanish champions and somehow found themselves lucky to have survived against Dortmund.

Defensive problems seem to haunt Mancini as he tries to bring in 19-year-old Matija Nastasic along with Vincent Kompany. The young serbian defender is yet to adapt to the Premier League but has already faced Real Madrid and Dortmund in the Champions League, raising doubts over first choice centre-back Jeloen Lescott.

Although City have a high-profile squad, their defensive problems doesn't seem to stop be it any competition. They face Sunderland, who have remained unbeaten this season, this Saturday. Mancini has a big task to save his job at the Etihad, which is retaining the Premier League title and reach as far as possible in the Champions League or may be even win it.
