Didn't mind Klose breaking my record: Ronaldo

By Samyuktha

Johannesburg, Jul 11: Besides losing to Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2010 semi finals, one of the biggest disappointments for the German fans across the world is the fact that their beloved striker Miroslav Klose was kept away from matching the World Cup record of 15 goals held by Ronaldo of Brazil.

Klose, who piled up 14 goals, was just one goal away from making it. The chance to achieve that was also possible as the team clashed against Uruguay for the third spot on Saturday, Jul 10 in Port Elizabeth. But he was kept away from action due to a back injury.

A evidently sad Klose sat on the bench watching the match as Germany beat Uruguay 3-2 to take home bronze.

However, a voice of praise for Klose comes from the very man the German decided to nudge aside in the history books.

"Congratulations to Klose, to score 14 goals at the World Cup is fantastic. It's sad that he did not play on Saturday," Ronaldo is quoted as saying by an international news agency.

"I was not opposed to him breaking my record. I have made my history. Now it is time for others to write their stories," the Brazilian, with true sportsman spirit, added.

Klose apparently wanted to play against Uruguay despite his injury. But the striker did not wish to put the team at any risk and decided to sit it out, the German coach Joachim Loew informed.
