Buenos Aires, Aug 30: Star footballers Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero are virtually out of Argentina's World qualifying squad due to injuries.
While Barcelona man Messi is suffering from a hamstring injury, Manchester City's Sergio Aguero has been ruled out due to a calf injury.
Lionel Messi who played against Athletic club on Sunday (August 28) in a La Liga match, has travelled to his country to join the national team preparation camp.
But yesterday (August 29) a statement from FC Barcelona confirmed Messi's injury. The statement read: "Tests conducted today have confirmed that Lionel Messi has a sore left adductor muscle. Both the Medical Services of FC Barcelona and the AFA have agreed on this report.
"The player will travel to Argentina to join the national team and the evolution of the discomfort will decide his availability to play in the games scheduled."
The Argentina Football Association (AFA) is yet to comment on Messi's situation thus his absence from the squad is yet to be confirmed.
Sergio Aguero on the other hand has been ruled out of action after he was jolted with a calf injury. The striker played in Manchester City's game week 3 clash against West Ham United on Sunday. The AFA has already confirmed that Aguero is out of the squad.
Argentina are currently in the third position in the CONMEBOL World Cup group table. They host Uruguay on September before travelling to Venezuela on September 7.
