Liverpool forward Sadio Mane blames poor defending after Watford draw

Liverpool, Aug 14: Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane has suggested that the Reds can offer no explanation for not opening their Premier League campaign with a win after they drew the match conceding a last minute equaliser.

The Senegal international was one of the noteworthy players for Jurgen Klopp's side in the match who scored the first goal of the match for them.

Mane equalized for Liverpool after Stefano Okaka's early opener, and later goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah put Jurgen Klopp's men 3-2 up at Vicarage Road.

However, they surrendered the lead in the 93rd minute when Watford defender Britos scored the equaliser from a close position.

And after the match, the Senegal international responded that Jurgen Klopp's side played perfectly to win, however, the poor defensive performance cost them the match.

"We're disappointed because we deserved to win," he told Liverpool's official website. "We should have defended better in this kind of game, it's always complicated with long balls. It's the first game of the season and we're going to try to work hard for the next games.

"No excuses -- everybody is fit. We're unlucky we didn't get three points because we were looking for that, but the next game we're going to be ready to get three points to make our fans happy."

Liverpool will again play on Tuesday when they will go to Germany to confront Bundesliga hotshot Hoffenheim in the play-off round of the Champions League.

And regarding the match, the 25-year-old suggested Liverpool can get over from the upset of their opening day fiasco and they should avail the most possible required outcome in Germany.

"We are all professionals," he added. "This can happen in football.

"With all due respect to Watford, we should have won, we were the better team, but it's football. We'll accept it, forget it and try to be ready for the next game."
