Banerjee, soon after Atletico win, posted on her Facebook wall, "My heartiest congratulations to Atletico de Kolkata for winning the first-ever ISL tournament held in India." Hailing the tournament for popularising Indian soccer the chief minister also wrote: "ISL as a sporting event popularising Indian football and taking it the grass root level will be a great morale booster for football lovers in Bengal and beyond. Congratulations again!"

Mohammad Rafique scored the most-important goal in the closing minutes helping Atletico de Kolkata emerge triumphant of the tourney.
