Napoli demand record transfer fee for Gonzalo Higuain from Arsenal

Bengaluru, July 13: Arsenal FC have to pay a mammoth 94m euros (£80m) to sign their primary target Gonzalo Higuain from Italian Serie A side Napoli.

According to reports from European media outlets, Napoli, who came second in the Serie A last season, has valued their star player at 94m euros.

A source close to the Italian side has claimed that the amout is Higuain's release clause and if a club has to buy him they need to shell out the humongous sum.

BBC Sport quoted the source, it said: "There are no direct offers. Only by meeting the release clause of 94,376,000 euros will the player leave Napoli. Otherwise Higuain will stay for the remaining two years of his deal."

Gonzalo Higuain was the top scorer in the Italian Serie A last season netting 36 goals goals for Napoli. He helped Napoli secure the second position in the league table behind champions Juventus.

Yesterday (July 12), it was reported that English Premier League side Arsenal are interested in the striker. They are ready to offer Olivier Giroud along with money for the Argentine striker.

But now as it seems, Napoli are not ready to let go their star performer for a nominal sum. Higuain joined Napoli in 2013 and has scored 68 goals in 114 matches.

Arsenal are in search of a quality striker to strengthen their squad. Arsenal Wenger has star studded midfield line-up featuring Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey, etc but due to lack of a positive quality striker the team fails to attain ultimate glory.

Gonzalo Higuain's price is a little less than the world record transfer fee of Gareth Bale £80m, which Real Madrid paid in 2013 to Tottenham, and same as of Cristiano Ronaldo which Real paid in 2009 to Manchester United.

In the current scenario, Arsenal will definitely pursue their interest in the Argentine considering the transfer fee they have to pay.
