Rio de Janeiro, Aug 21: Brazilian superstar footballer Neymar Jr. has decided to step down as the captain of Brazil national football team.
Last night the FC Barcelona scripted history as his brilliance on the pitch guided Brazil to their maiden gold medal in Olympic football. Brazil defeated Germany in the final, 5-4 via penalty shootout.
What other legendary Brazilian footballers of yesteryears could not do, the 24-year-old footballer achieved leading his national team from the front.
But just after the triumph over Germany, Neymar made a shocking revelation. He said that he will step down as the captain of the Brazil national team.
Speaking to TV Globo, the Brazilian said: "I don't take it as a pressure, it is you (the press) who say it. But today, as a champion, I am giving (up) the captain's armband. I was glad to receive it, I have honored it, but today I am (leaving it). Tite can choose another captain."
Neymar was given the captain's armband in 2014 after the FIFA World Cup by the then Brazil manager Dunga.
Neymar was instrumental as a Brazil captain. After missing out of Copa America 2016, Neymar focused on teh Olympics and has achieved what he wanted.
