New Delhi, Aug 12: The focus was wholly on the start of the new season of the Premier League on Friday (August 11) but the transfer window is an interesting time and it never fails to surprise us.

We got to see an amazing turn of events at Anfield on Friday as the Philippe Coutinho transfer saga took a new height.

The day started well for the Liverpool fans as the club's owners issued a statement stating that they will not entertain any kind of offer for their biggest asset and he will remain at the club when the window ends.

However, things escalated quickly in a few hours as reports surfaced that Coutinho has officially submitted a transfer request urging the club to sell him.

Liverpool's statement read: "We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho.

"The club's definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes."

Just when the fans seemed relaxed on the Coutinho situation, Sky Sports broke the story of Coutinho submitting a formal transfer request which was later confirmed by other publications as well.

However, Liverpool are adamant that they will not sell the Brazilian playmaker under any circumstances. Speaking at his Melwood press conference today, boss Jurgen Klopp revealed that Coutinho will miss Saturday's trip to Watford with a back injury and is a doubt for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Hoffenheim.

Some reports claim that the reports of Coutinho being absent from training are false as he wants to force a move to Barcelona. Liverpool are having a frustrating transfer window thus far and the Coutinho situation will certainly put them on the backfoot.

We have to wait and what future holds for Coutinho but at the moment, Liverpool are in a tight corner.
