It was early in the first half when Portugal's main man and captain Cristiano Ronaldo had to substitued due to very bad injury.
The Portuguese fans as well as the player were anxious as their star left the pitch so early at the biggest stage of the tournament. It was Ronaldo's dream to win the title but the his team's chances look bleak as he went off.
The Real Madrid forward broke dowm in tears after realising his time was up, such was his passion and dedication. He wanted to be a part of Portugal's history but one tackle shattered it.
Ricardo Quaresma replaced Ronaldo upfront as the game resumed. Portugal never lost hope instead fought fearlessly infront of the mighty host nation France. And finally in the extra-time Eder scored the winning goal to ensure that Ronaldo will not be leaving France empty handed.
After the match, Portugal defender Cedric Soares faced the media and disclosed what exactly Ronaldo had told to his team mates. He said: "It was a very, very tough moment. It was a really tough moment for me and for the team.
"I think everybody was a little bit in shock but at half-time Cristiano had fantastic words with us.
"He gave us a lot of confidence and he said, 'Listen people, I'm sure we will win this Euro so stay together and fight for it'.
"It was unbelievable. All the team had a fantastic attitude and showed that when you fight as one you are much much stronger.
"He was fantastic. His attitude was unbelievable. At half-time he helped a lot, our colleagues, he had always a lot of motivational words. All the team reacted to them so it was very, very good."
Ronaldo himself said: "No one believed in us. I had already won everything with clubs. I lacked something with the national team. Portugal have deserved this after many years of sacrifice
"It was not the final I wanted, but I am very happy. It is a trophy for all the Portuguese, for all immigrants, all the people who believed in us, so I am very happy and very proud."
