1932 Los Angeles Olympics
Only three times participated in this Olympic, Japan and the hosts, the USA, besides India. India trounced Japan 11-1 in the first match while destroyed the USA 24-1! Dhyan Chand and his brother Roop Singh scored 25 of the 35 goals India scored in two matches.
Winner:
India won gold by defeating both other teams. Japan bagged the silver after defeating the USA 9-2.
Some facts from the 1928 Games:
1. India's second goal-keeper on the tour Arthur Hind refused to wear the turban, which was part of the official dress, before the march past. He was asked to go back home but later apologised and allowed to stay back. This time too, the Indian outfit was hit by group rows between the Indian and Anglo-Indian players.
2. India went on a tour of the US and Europe just after the Games and in the 37 matches they played during this time, Dhyan Chand scored 133 goals (out of 338 team goals).
