Bengaluru, August 22: Former Indian captain Jude Felix has been appointed as the coach of the national junior hockey team. The Hockey India made the move after the Indian tema's creditable performance during the recent tour that saw as many as nine young players doing well.

The 33-member junior squad will train under Felix as a preparation for their title defence in the World Junior Championship.

"Jude is a vastly experienced player and coach. Under him, I am sure the junior squad will move from strength to strength. Hockey is aiming to bring good results from the 2020 and 2024 Olympics and this group of juniors could be key to that," said David John, India's High Performance Director.

I am excited to take up this new role. The junior core group was picked on the basis of their performance in the National Championships and this group will be further pruned down to a 18-member squad for the Sultan of Johor Cup, our first international tournament for this year," Felix said.

The Bengalurean was an assistant to senior men's team coach Terry Walsh in 2014.
