Rio de Janeiro, Aug 8: The most decorates Olympian in the history, swimmer Michael Phelps his 19 Olympics gold medal today (August 8) with team USA in the 4x100 m relay category.
The 31-year-old swimmer is participating in this year's Olympic games for the fifth time in his career. His first ever appearance at the games was in 2000 Sydney where he became the youngest American swimmer, 15 to take part at the Olympics.
In today's 4x100m category, defending champions France were in a commanding position in the beginning as they had the lead. But soon team USA fought back and decimated their lead.
The traditional rivals in swimming, France and USA competed fiercely before team USA having the final laugh as Phelps played a stellar role.
Another country who is an illustrous history in the sports, Australia, bagged the bronze medal in the event. Australia have produced some of the finest talents namely the legendary Ian Thorpe.
This was Michael Phelps 23rd medal in the Olympics which includes 19 gold medals, 2 bronze medals and 2 silver medals.
