Rochester, Aug 15 (UNI) Rising from an early slump, Indian pro Arjun Atwal carded a one-under 69 in the opening round of Xerox Classic to be placed tied 35th in the 600,000 dollar Nationwide Tour event here.
Atwal's opening round was punctuated by four birdies against three bogeys.
Playing the back nine first, Atwal started with a birdie on the 11th but his three bogeys on the 13th and 18th left him one-over at the turn.
However, the Orlando-based Indian's front nine was much better with two birdies on the second and third followed by another on the sixth, while a dropped shot on the fourth was the worst.
America's Bob May, who shot a six-under 64, grabbed the top position. His compatriot Dave Schultz was a stroke behind him.
