Indian Golf Union announces team for World Cup 2008

By Staff

New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) The Indian Golf Union today announced the team for the World Amateur Golf Championship for the Eisenhower Cup 2008 to be played at Adelaide in Australia from October 16-19.

Gagan Verma, Saurab Bahuguna and Rashid Khan were selected to represent India at the World Cup after eight rounds of gruelling golf on four different golf courses in the NCR region.

The trials were held on Delhi Golf club, ITC Golf Resort, Golden Greens Golf Resort and Jaypee Greens Golf Resort.

Gagan and Saurab tied for the first place and Rashid, the reigning junior number 1 in the country, was placed behind them.

For Rashid, the 17-year-old caddy boy from DGC, it would be a great experience. Last week, he had won the Northern India Amateur championship played at the DGC, with a great performance of - 9 under par for the tournament.

Gagan and Saurab are in excellent nick and both have played great golf throughout the current season.

This team, a blend of youth and experience, stands a chance to perform well at the world cup and likely to finish in top 10.
