Woods fights back to be four shots behind leader

By Super Admin

London, May 7 (ANI): Ace golfer Tiger Woods, overcoming his shaky start, improved his game to shoot two-under-par 70 and equalled his best first round in 14 years at the Players Championship at Florida.

Woods was not at his best as he sailed his tee shot at the first hole into the left rough. He is four shots behind leaders, JB Holmes and Robert Allenby, who fired six-under 66s.

He was nowhere near his best, with his driving still a concern, The Independent reports.

"I hit it solid today. It's a new week. I've only played six competitive rounds in five months. People have to be more realistic. I'm right in this," he said afterwards.

Lee Westwood and Luke Donald are in the group on third on five-under and will undoubtedly be fancying their chances.

Phil Mickelson, the Masters champion, was happy to sign for his own 70 given how poorly he played.

"I didn't have it today, but I can still get right back into the tournament," he said. (ANI)
