Djokovic knocks Federer out of Oz Open

By Staff
Melbourne, Jan 25: Roger Federer's streak of 10 straight Grand Slam finals came to an end as World No. 3 player Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in the Australian Open semi-finals today.

The Swiss champion and top seed fell 7-5 6-3 7-6, ending his bid to win his third consecutive title. Djokovic will face Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Sunday's final. "Of course, I've created a monster, so I know I need to always win every tournament," Federer told reporters. "But semis is still, you know, pretty good." "It's unbelievable to beat the number one player in the world, probably the best this court has seen," Djokovic said in elation.

"I was able to deal with the pressure in the best possible way. And if you do that against the best player in the world, you know, you should get the positive outcome."

This defeat was Federer's first in straight sets at a grand slam since he lost to Gustavo Kuerten in the 2004 French Open.
