French Open: No. 1 Mauresmo loses opener

By Super Admin

Paris, May 25: The former number one Amelie Mauresmo was beaten out of the French Open in its first round on Sunday, May 24 to Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-4, 6-3.

Claiming that she could not find the right pace or the distance, Mauresmo said, "I don't know. My performance was not good enough. I couldn't neutralize her, and I thought this would be the most important aspect."

Anna-Lena Groenefeld along with third-seeded Andy Murray advanced to the second round on the opening day of play.

Suffering her earliest defeat since 2001, Mauresmo walked off the centre court without showing any interest in talking to the media. When asked if it was the pressure that led to her defeat she said, " Don't know. I don't know. I don't know".

With her 30th birthday fast approaching, it is believed that her career is on its way to a winding conclusion.
