Indo-Pak duo Bopanna-Qureshi enter US Open finals

By Samyuktha
New York, Sep 9: In a rare occurance political rivals India and Pakistan are rejoicing to the same news as the Indo-Pak pair Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi march into the US Open doubles finals.

The duo defeated unseeded Argentine pair of Eduardo Schwank & Horacio Zeballos 7-6, 6-4 to enter their maiden grand slam final.

"The only motivation I have for these two weeks is to get these titles for the people back home. I'm trying to send some positive news back home with the floods and everything," said Qureshi from Pakistan.

"All credit to him. He had all his energy up. It has been great to be friends on and off the court. I'm hoping I can help him take both titles back home and send some positive news to Pakistan," Bopanna said.

The duo are a great symbol of the kind of bilateral friendship that India and Pakistan could foster if all the conflicts were resolved.

"I'm really looking forward to the finals against the Bryans. To be the best you have to beat the best," Bopanna, who dreamt of claiming his first Grand Slam title just a month ago, added.

Bopanna and Qureshi will be battling against the US top seeds Mike and Bob Bryan, also dubbed as the Bryan brothers, in the finals on Friday, Sep 10.
