Paes-Dlouhy cruise into quarters of Swiss Indoor

By Staff

Basel, Switzerland, Oct 23 (UNI) Rallying back after intial hiccups, Indian ace Leander Paes and his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy advanced into the quater finals of the Euro 891,000 Swiss Indoor ATP Tournament here, after defeating Jurgen Melzer and Todd Perry.

The third seeded Indo-Czech pair survived a scare before they beat the unseeded Austrian-Australian pair 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 in just one hour and nine minutes in the first round of the hard court event.

Though Paes-Dlouhy saved one breakpoint in the first set, they dropped their serve twice to hand the first set to their rivals.

They had enough chances to draw parity in the second set but could convert just one of the five breakpoints, which was enough to take the set.

Paes-Dlouhy then won the decisive super tie-breaker with little trouble, to take the match.

The experienced duo will next face the German pair of Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber.

However, the second-seeded pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and his Bahamian partner Mark Knowles are yet to start their campaign against the Spanish pair of Feliciano Lopezand Marcel Granollers.
