US Open: Federer, Djokovic enter second round

Bangalore, Aug 28: Five-time US Open champion Roger Federer defeated Grega Zemlja of Slovenia 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 on Tuesday as the Swiss master began with a convincing victory at the US Open.

World No. 7 Federer next plays against Argentine Carlos Berlocq, who beat Santiago Giraldo of Colombia, 6-3, 3-6, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 6-2.

"I felt good, and it's nice to be back in New York, conditions were tricky, we both struggled with rhythm but I'm happy to be through to the next round," Federer said.

In another match six-time Grand Slam champion and top-seeded Novak Djokovic defeated Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.

The 26-year-old Serbian will play Germany's Benjamin Becker who defeated Lukas Rosol of The Czech Republic 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round.
