US Open: Former champion Rafael Nadal enters second round

Bangalore, Aug 27: Second-seeded and former champion Rafael Nadal ease into the second round of US Open on Monday.

Nadal had a career-best hard-court match win streak to 16 straight matches as he defeated American player Ryan Harrison 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the US Open.

""I am playing well. Happy the way I was playing. I don't know if it was the best or not, but it was very good because I was able to win," Nadal said to the reporters after the match.

This victory in US Open marked the first for second-seeded Nadal on any Grand Slam surface other than clay since the first round of Wimbledon 2012.

Since then the former champion has fallen to Lukas Rosol at the All England Club, withdrawn from the 2012 US Open because of knee injury and in 2013 Australian Open also withdrawn the match due to stomach ailment, won the French Open and in the recently held Wimbledon 2013 he was defeated by 135th-ranked Steve Darcis in the first round.
