Warsaw, May 22: In what seems to be a story of rise and fall of the might Maria Sharapova, the grand slam title winner has been routed out by Alona Bondarenko in the quarterfinals of the Warsaw Open on Thursday, May 21.
The Russian who marched into the Quarterfinals after beating Darya Kustova on Wednesday, May 20 was hailed for making a strong comeback after her surgery. However, Ukrainian Bondarenko beat her out of the tournament with 6-2 6-2.
"I give her all the credit for doing all the right things and stepping up and playing her game and playing it really well," Sharapova said.
This was the first tournament Sharapova played after her shoulder surgery since 10 months.
