Australia's Adam Voges suffers head injury by bouncer to helmet

Voges has played 20 Tests, 31 ODIs and 7 T20Is for Australia. He averages 61.87 in Tests.

Sydney, Nov 17: Australia batsman Adam Voges on Thursday (Nov 17) suffered an injury in his head after being hit by a bouncer in Sheffield Shield match at the WACA.

Voges, who was rushed to the hospital, has been diagnosed with a concussion and ruled out of the rest to the match against Tasmania.

As per an ESPNcricinfo report, Voges was retired hurt on 16 when he failed to evade a bouncer from fast bowler Cameron Stevenson and was hit on the helmet.

Voges is the Western Australia captain. Voges lay on the ground for some time after the blow, and was assisted from the ground by medical staff before being monitored in the change-rooms, the report said.

Earlier this year, the right-handed batsman suffered a freak head injury while playing county cricket for Middlesex. He suffered the injury while fielding at slip when he was hit on the back of the head by a ball thrown back towards wicketkeeper's end.

Voges has played 20 Tests, 31 ODIs and 7 T20Is for Australia. He averages 61.87 in Tests.

Voges injury brought the tragic incident of Australia Test opener Phil Hughes death. Hughes passed away on November 27 2014 after suffering a severe head injury during a match on November 25 in Sydney.

Hughes played 26 Tests, 25 ODIs and 1 T20I for Australia. His final Test was at Lord's in July 2013.

Earlier last month, the family of Australian cricketer, Hughes, walked out in tears from the inquest into their son's death with their lawyer accusing witnesses of giving misleading evidence to the coroner.

The five-day coronial inquest concluded in dramatic fashion when the parents and brother of Hughes walked out of the inquest during closing comments.
