Mumbai, May 13: Punjab Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 54 runs to stay alive in the IPL 2022 Playoffs race on Friday (May 13).
Chasing 210 to win the RCB caved in quite easily as there was hardly any fight from any batsman except Glenn Maxwell who looked to soldier on before getting out.
Earlier, Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow hammered power-packed fifties as Punjab Kings rattled 209 for 9, a stiff total even at the belter of a pitch at the Brabourne Stadium.
The two Englishmen exploited the true nature of the surface and punished the bowlers all around the park. Bairstow struck at a strike-rate around 250 and Livingstone around 200 as runs came at a torrent for the Punjab outfit.
Josh Hazlewood and Mohammad Siraj leaked runs like a broken tap as they conceded 94 runs from a combined 6 overs.
It had a destructive effect on RCB as even a brilliant last over by Harshal Patel, in which he took 2 wickets, had little impact on the total.
In the end, the total proved good enough for a big win for Punjab Kings.
