Four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and reigning champions Gujarat Titans will clash in the final of IPL 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday (May 29) with the match set to start at 7:30 PM IST.
CSK-led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni will look to level the record for most IPL title wins, while GT led by Hardik Pandya will aim for their second successive title and two in two seasons at the toughest T20 league in the world.
GT opened their season with two successive wins, including the victory over CSK in the league stage, followed by a defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders, but have since won 9 of 13 matches with the recent result being a comprehensive win against Mumbai Indians in the eliminator.
CSK, on the other hand, opened their campaign with defeat to GT, but bounced back with two successive wins before being pegged back at home by Rajasthan Royals. They, however, have won seven in the last 11 matches with recent result being victory over GT in qualifier 1.
GT and CSK have already met twice earlier this season. First in the curtain-raiser in Ahmedabad, where CSK rode on Ruturaj Gaikwad's 92 to set a target of 179, which was chased down by GT with five wickets in hand and 4 balls to spare thanks to Shubman Gill's 63.
In the qualifier 1 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, CSK rode on Gaikwad's 60 to set a target of 173 before an all-round bowling effort helped bundle out GT for 157 to seal a 15-run win.
The two sides will now clash for the third time this season and for the second time at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where several players including CSK skipper MS Dhoni and GT captain Hardik Pandya, have a chance to reach milestones or break records.
