New Delhi, Apr 6: India still seem to be reeling under the hangover of the mesmerizing Cricket World Cup win. While the entire team is ruling the hearts of millions of Indians, one man who is hogging the limelight beside master blaster Sachin Tendulkar is the winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. After his successful effort to steer India to victory, the laurels just doesn't seem to subside.

Dhoni will now don a new cap beside his successful stint as skipper of the winning World Cup cricket team. He has accepted to join the army and serve the nation. The announcement was made after Dhoni met the Chief of Army Staff, General V K Singh along with team member Suresh Raina on Tuesday. Gen Singh felicitated the cricketing heroes for making the nation proud with their stellar achievements.

A top army official has been quoted as saying, "The Chief of Army Staff exchanged pleasantries with Dhoni and offered an 'honorary commission' to the Indian skipper in the Territorial Army, which he readily accepted. The case for granting him honorary commission will now be processed as per procedure."

The Indian captain said that he was keen to join the armed forces and had always harboured a desire to join the “fauj"(army) and had many friends in the army. Gen Singh also took the opportunity to laud Dhoni on his leadership qualities and said that he will make the nation proud in other ways as well.

Dhoni was also felicitated by Air Chief Marshal PV Naik, the Chief of the Air Staff on Monday. Earlier in Sept 2010, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was feted for his achievements by giving him the rank of 'Honorary Group Captain' by the Indian Air Force (IAF).
