Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police Abdul Rashid was martyred in Kashmir's Anantnag on August 28 when militants fired at him at Mehandi Kadal area.

Jammu and Kashmir police thanked the veteran cricketer for his noble gesture. The Gautam Gambhir Foundation will be bearing the expenses of the girl, who's tears and innocent questions upon her father's death shook the entire nation. Photographs of Zohra crying inconsolably over the coffin of her father went viral on social media.

The cricketer was widely lauded over social media for his gesture. Here's how people reacted on Twitter:

Earlier this year, the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper pledged to fund the education of the children of 25 CRPF jawans, who were killed by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district.

Gambhir announced that he would extend support to the children through his Gautam Gambhir Foundation.

"Initial steps have already been taken in this regard," he said.

I was shaken by the massacre and pictures of grieving daughters of two martyred CRPF officials left me feeling hollow, he also said.
