If they spent most of the time hosting teams at home in 2017, the Virat Kohli & Co. will be embarking upon some challenging overseas tours in the year 2018.

South Africa, England and Australia are on Team India's itinerary for the year 2018 and these tours are going to define the character and future of this extremely talented group of boys who were on a record-breaking spree at home.

Team India's first major assignment in 2018 started with South Africa tour where they had never won a series before.

After going down 2-1 in the three-Test series, Virat Kohli and his boys came back strongly in the ODI series and created history by defeating the Proteas in the 50-overs format thereby ending 25-year-long jinx.

Number one ranked Test side under the leadership of Virat Kohli played three-Test matches against South Africa. They lost the Test series 2-1 and failed to win their first-ever series on the Protea soil.

However, a win in the third Test boosted the morale of the team and they went on claiming the ODI series. The Men In Blue are also set to play 3 T20I matches against the Proteas.

The Indian cricket team will once again tour Sri Lanka after the conclusion of a challenging and grinding tour of South Africa.

India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will visit Sri Lanka of a tri-nation Twenty20 international series to celebrate the Island Nation's 70th Independence Day. The fixtures for the tournament - NIDAHAS Trophy 2018 were announced on January 18.

Here is the full schedule of NIDAHAS Trophy T20I Tri-series:

6 March (Tuesday) - India Vs Sri Lanka

8 March (Thursday) - India Vs Bangladesh

10 March (Saturday) - Sri Lanka Vs Bangladesh

12 March (Monday) - India Vs Sri Lanka

14 March (Wednesday) - India Vs Bangladesh

16 March (Friday) - Sri Lanka Vs Bangladesh

18 March (Sunday) - FINAL

Note: All matches will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

After the conclusion of the Tri-nation series in Sri Lanka, the Indian cricketers will get a short break before shedding off their national dresses and putting on the coloured outfits of their respective franchises for the eleventh season of the cash-rich Indian Premier League.

The IPL will begin from April 7 and will last until May 27, before the finalists clash for the title. The players will be competing against each other in the home-grown domestic T20 league.

Afghanistan cricket team will be creating history when they'll come to India to play a one-off Test series against the number one ranked side in the month of June.

This will be the first occasion when Afghanistan and India will be involved in a Test match. The match will be played from June 14-18 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Team India would be leaving for the United Kingdom after Test series against Afghanistan. Virat Kohli-led side first land in Ireland where they will play two Twenty20 internationals against Ireland.

After a short stay in Dublin, Team India will head for England to engage in another challenging tour. The two teams will play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 5 Tests in the tour that gets underway from July 3.

This time India will play the limited-overs' games in coloured outfits before putting on the whites.

The tour will start with the T20I series followed by as many ODIs and finally, the five-Test series will start from August 1. The tour will conclude on September 11.

Upon their return from England, Team India will be set to defend their Aisa Cup trophy in their own den. The tournament, which is now held in a T20I format, will tentatively commence on September 15 and will continue for the next two weeks with the final being scheduled for September 30.

India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan are the certain participants while the sixth team will be the winner of the 2018 Asia Cup Qualifier. Star Sports will telecast all the matches.

If India hosted Sri Lanka in 2017 at home before departing for South Africa, they are scheduled to host West Indies in three Tests, five ODIs and one T20I in October.

However, there is no confirmation of the dates.

Virat Kohli and his boys will set out for their next major overseas assignment in the second half of November when they will be leaving for Australian shores.

The two sides will play at least four Tests

Towards the end of the year, India will tour Australia where they will play at least four Test matches. The home board - Cricket Australia - are yet to announce the dates of the series.

The matches will be broadcasted by Sony Pictures Network.
