Most Runs Scored in Death Overs in IPL: CSK captain MS Dhoni completes 2600 runs

Most Runs Scored in Death Overs in IPL: Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed several brilliant displays of batting with their consistent performances over the years. Still, the players who have the tendency to score heavily in the death overs have always been in high demand.

We have entered the 16th edition of the biggest T20 competition on the planet and a lot has changed all these years but the players - who own the reputation of being the finishers of the game - have been constant.

MS dhoni is the greatest finishers of all time

Finishing games on a regular basis needs a lot of grit and determination. It is a craft that player masters over a period of time and not many are skilled enough to perform this job.

Who are the finishers in cricket?

The batters who can keep their calm in the slog overs and play big knocks on a regular basis to help the team either post a big total while batting first or help chase down the total more often than not.

As several games in the cash-rich league tend to go down the wire due to the stiff competition between teams, every franchise looks to have a couple of finishers in its ranks. If they don't have one, the team management invests a lot of time and patience to inculcate this quality in some players, whom they find suitable enough for the role.

Former India captain and Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is often hailed as one of the greatest finishers in white-ball cricket of all time because the wicketkeeper-batsman has done it for his teams time and again. The right-handed batsman from Jharkhand has amassed the most number of runs in the IPL in the death overs i.e. between the 16th and 20th overs.

MS Dhoni - who has played for Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants (now defunct) - has amassed the highest number of runs in the slog overs. He might be 41, but the former India cricketer continues finishing games for his franchise CSK. Known as the biggest death overs specialist in the T20 format, Dhoni keeps the bar higher by sitting comfortably on top.

According to Cricviz Analyst data, "Since the start of 2020, there have been 40 players to bat 30+ times in the IPL. Of those players, MS Dhoni's Average Batting Impact (-0.2) ranks 33rd out of 40. However, if you look only at Overs 19 & 20, Dhoni ranks 4th out of 33 batters. When it matters, he matters."

Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard follows the CSK captain as the second-highest run-scorer in death overs. The former Mumbai Indians' all-rounder has amassed 1705 runs in the death overs for his IPL franchise.

Former South Africa batting great AB de Villiers is next on the list with 1421 runs. The Protea batting legend is no more playing in the IPL but he sits at the top with his performances.
