Dubai, Jul 17 (UNI) The International Cricket Council (ICC) today said representatives of all teams participating in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan this September have been invited for a security briefing here on July 20.
The timing of the briefing was agreed upon during the ICC's annual conference week earlier this month.
Representatives of the ICC's Broadcast Partner ESPN STAR Sports and the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA) have also been invited to attend.
Pakistan's chances of hosting the Champions Trophy has been undermined by a series of suicide bombings this year. Although the situation had eased since February's general election, eight people were killed in a blast at Islamabad on the night of the Asia Cup final.
The ICC has said it could relocate the event if the security situation warranted.
''Prior to the meeting the ICC will not indulge in speculation and, at this stage, the tournament will proceed in Pakistan, as scheduled,'' an ICC release said.
Matches are scheduled at Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi from September 11-28.
