ICC World Cup 2019: All you need to know about reserve days, rain rules for semis and final

New Delhi, July 9: All semi-final and final matches of ICC World Cup 2019 have been allocated reserve days. But if the game is not completed on the scheduled day, the contest shall resume from the same point where it had stopped. There is no option to start afresh.

Here's playing conditions set out by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in case of rain and washout. The same will apply for the second semi-final between Australia and England in Birmingham on July 11. There is a reserve day for the final (July 14) too.

Reserve Days

When is a Reserve Day required?

When is a Reserve Day required?

The match officials determine if conditions allow for play to be completed on the original match day.

Where possible, the matches will be held on their originally planned day and in the event of poor weather for example, there are a range of steps taken to be able to finish the match that day e.g. reducing the number of overs down to the minimum of 20 overs per team needed to achieve a result, or by extending the match by up to 120 minutes.

If there is still no result on the scheduled match day, play will continue on the Reserve Day, using the same start time and hours of play as the scheduled match day.

How does the Reserve Day work?

How does the Reserve Day work?

The reserve day will be a continuation not a restart, assuming play commenced on the original match day, meaning the score from the original match day will be carried through to the reserve day.

If no play was possible on the original planned match day, a full 50-over per team match will commence on the Reserve Day, weather permitting.

What if no play is possible on the Reserve Day?

What if no play is possible on the Reserve Day?

If after the scheduled day and reserve day the semi-final match has still not reached a result, the higher-placed team from the CWC19 league stage will progress to the final.

If there is no play possible on either the originally schedule day of the final, nor the Reserve Day, the World Cup will be shared by the two finalist teams.

In case of a tied match:

In case of a tied match:

• If a Semi-Final is tied, the teams shall compete in a Super Over to determine which team progresses to the Final. Refer attached Appendix H.

• If following a tie, weather conditions prevent the Super Over from being completed, or if the match is abandoned or a no result at the end of the reserve day, then the team which proceeds to the Final will be the team that finished in the higher position in the League Stage. In present scenario, India (1) will progress to the final while Australia (2) also enter the final as they finished higher than England (3) if the second semi-final ends in a tie. New Zealand were fourth in the standings after the group stage.

Procedure for the Super Over in Semi-Finals & Final

The following procedure will apply should the provision for a Super Over be adopted in the semi-finals or final.

1 Subject to weather conditions the Super Over will take place on the scheduled day of the match (or reserve day if it is utilised for the semi-finals or final) at a time to be determined by the ICC Match Referee. In normal circumstances it shall commence 10 minutes after the conclusion of the match.

10 Each team shall be allowed to have one player review during the Super Over.
