India Vs Australia, 2nd T20I: Ton-up Maxwell spearheads Australia to a series-clinching win - As it happened

Bengaluru, Feb 27: Glenn Maxwell slammed his career's third Twenty20 International century and single-handedly guided Australia to a massive seven-wicket win over India in the second T20I as the tourists clean swept the series 2-0 here at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday (February 27).

Chasing a target of 191, Australia rode on one of the finest T20I innings from Maxwell (113* from 55balls) as Aaron Finch-led side romped home in style. Batting at an incredible strike rate of 205.45, Maxwell smashed nine sixes and seven boundaries and targetted every Indian bowler.

The explosive batsman constructed his innings brilliantly and remained unbeaten till the end and even hit the winning runs to hand India their first bilateral series defeat at home after 2015.

D'Arcy Short (40) and Peter Handscomb (20*) also played their parts well before Marcus Stoinis (5) and Aaron Finch (8) were dismissed within the powerplay.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who plays for RCB at this very venue in the IPL, leaked 47 runs from his quota of 4 overs and remained wicketless. His ineffectiveness into the middle after the dew factor came into play, rendered India's bowling weak. Siddharth Kaul (3.4 overs, 45/1) and Vijay Shankar (4-0-38-2), who were inducted into the side for this game, picked up wickets but couldn't trouble the Australian batsmen.

With 44 needed from the final four overs, as Bumrah and Kaul had two overs each to bowl, the crowd at Chinnaswamy still pinned their hopes with the home team but Maxwell's freak show was on display as he was unfazed by the bowlers coming up against him. He first attacked Bumrah to accumulate 14 runs from the 17th over and punctured India's hopes by amassing 18 runs from the 18th over bowled by Kaul to ensure his team needed just 14 off next 12 deliveries.

Earlier, Virat Kohli (72* off 38), KL Rahul (47 off 26), and MS Dhoni (40 off 13) were the leading run-scorers as India posted 190/4 in 20 overs. Kohli slammed yet another half-century and guided his team to a decent total.

At one stage, it seemed India would hardly reach 150-155 but the century stand between Kohli and Dhoni took them to a respectable total. The Chinnaswamy crowd witnessed some incredible hittings from the two most adored cricketers in the Indian side. Both Dhoni and Kohli complemented each other well and attacked the Aussie bowlers in the death overs. But their explosive innings went in vain as the five bowlers couldn't rise to the occasion on a pitch that favours the chasing side.

Here's how the 2nd T20I panned out at Chinnaswamy:

Aaron Finch: Anytime that you can win any kind of series against India in India is truly special. Glenn Maxwell was truly sensational tonight but I thought Adam Zampa was the difference between the two sides. To go for just 23 runs on that kind of a wicket was really remarkable. We've been on a journey for the last 10-11 months building upto the World Cup and there has been some pain during the journey. We've done well to take the blows but also have made some progress, hoping to peak at the right time for the World Cup.

Maxwell, Man of the Match and Man of the Series: It feels really good. We haven't had a lot of success here of late. To come over here and perform like we have has started it off well for us on this tour. It helps a big bulk of T20 cricket in the domestic tournament back home. Having confidence in my game also has helped a lot and it feels great to contribute to two special wins. Was a pretty good wicket and we could afford to wait for the loose balls. We knew that it could be easier against the quicks, anything around 12 rpo, we fancied to chase that down. After D'Arcy's dismissal, it was upto me to drive the rest of the innings. Handscomb did a great job in giving me the strike all the time. We had a lot of chaos in the last game but we corrected that tonight.
