India beat Bangladesh by 3 wickets in a last over thriller, lift Asia Cup title - As It Happened

Dubai, Sep 28: India's lower-middle order showed a tremendous character as they defeated Bangladesh in the last-ball thriller by 3 wickets and finally lifted the Asia Cup 2018 for record seventh time. Chasing a target of 223 India were tested by a spirited Bangladesh bowling attack but eventually managed to win this game on the final ball of the innings.

Rohit stitched a crucial partnership with Dinesh Karthik (37) but was dismissed while trying to hit a six and complete his half-century. After Rohit's dismissal, Karthik and MS Dhoni (36) revived India and added 54 runs for the fifth wicket but just when things were looking good for them, Mahmudullah trapped Karthik in front.

Dhoni then added some runs on the board with Jadhav, but the latter's hamstring injury eventually resulted in Dhoni losing his concentration into the middle and was dismissed and soon after Jadhav was called back into the dressing room as he wasn't able to rotate the strike. The new pair of Ravindra Jadeja (23) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (21) ensured India reach closer to victory with another crucial 45-run stand but both these batsmen departed as they reached on the verge of a win.

Finally, Jadhav and Kuldeep took 6 runs from the final 6 balls from part-time bowler Mahmudullah's over and ensured their team doesn't end on the losing side.

Earlier, Liton Das slammed his career's maiden ODI century before Bangladesh middle-order made a mess out of their batting to get restricted to 222 in 48.3 overs.

After being invited to bat first Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza played a masterstroke by promoting all-rounder Mehidy Hasan to open the innings with out of form Liton Das. The duo thus stunned all by stitching record opening stand of 120 for the first wicket. Bangladesh looked in cruise control as long as these two batted and frustrated the Indian bowlers for 20 overs.

Liton Das punishing the Indian bowlers at will as he was scoring at his will but the Indian bowlers handled the pressure well and ensured Bangladesh couldn't post a big total. Kedar Jadhav and Kuldeep Yadav bowled exceptionally well in the middle overs and picked up wickets at regular intervals after the opening partnership was broken. Once Jadhav removed Hasan for 32, Indian bowlers got three more wickets in a gap of 19 runs and pushed their opponents on the back foot.

Bangladesh batsmen also played some careless shots and were callous while running between the wickets, which gave their opponents an opportunity to tighten the noose around them. Indian affected three run outs and put the Bangladeshi batsmen under pressure.
