Lucknow, Nov 6: It was a perfect Diwali gift for the Indian cricket fans as a dominant Team India thrashed a listless West Indies side by 71 runs in the second Twenty20 International here on Tuesday (November 6).
Riding on the record fourth T20I ton from Rohit Sharma (111* off 61), India wrapped up the series by taking an unassailable 2-0 lead as cricket returned to Lucknow after an exile of 24 years. Rohit made the celebration greater with his sensational batting effort which was laced with seven sixes and eight boundaries.
The Mumbaikar carried his bat through to help India post a massive total of 195/2 on the board after Windies skipper Carlos Brathwaite won the toss and invited the hosts to bat. After a sluggish start, Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan (43) switched gears and stitched another century partnership for the first wicket.
By the time Dhawan was dismissed in the 13th over, Rohit had already done the damage and Rishabh Pant (4) too failed to get to a good start. However, KL Rahul (26* off 14) along with Rohit ensured the hosts post a decent total on the board at the 52nd international venue in India.
Chasing the massive total, Windies lost their opener in the second over itself as left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed cleaned up Shai Hope for 6. The youngster also gave India their second success by getting rid of Shimron Hetmyer (15). Khaleel finished his full quota of 4 overs for 2/30.
Later, Kuldeep Yadav (2/32), Jasprit Bumrah (2/20) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/12) were also equally good with the ball as the Indians never let the pressure off the visitors.
Krunal Pandya (0/23) remained wicketless but he was very disciplined with his spin bowling but effected a brilliant run out.
It was a ruthless effort from the Indians overall as they hardly did anything wrong. The only setback the Men In Blue had was their captain failed to win the toss since then everything was as per the script.
Rohit was named the man of the match for his incredible knocks as he became the first batsman to slam four T20I centuries apart from becoming the leading run-scorer for India in the T20Is. He's surpassed Virat Kohli to become the leading run scorer. The right-handed batsman is second on the list of leading T20I run-getters. Only New Zealand's Martin Guptill is ahead of Rohit.
As it happened:
Captain Rohit has lost just 1 T20I game so far!
Rohit Sharma has now led India in 11 T20Is, won 10, lost 1.#INDvWI #INDvsWI

It's all over! Convincing Win 👏🏏Dominant India beat Windies by 71 runs and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. After captain Rohit slammed a superb ton, bowlers put up a brilliant show to restrict WI to 124/9 in 20 overs.
Wicket! Jasprit Bumrah gets another wicket off his own bowling. Khary Pierre (1) gives a simple catch to the bowler and the Indians are not even celebrating. WI - 116/9 after 19.2 overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar at his clinical best tonight as he finishes with 4-0-12-2. WI - 115/8 after 19 overs.
Wicket! Bhuvneshwar Kumar gets his second wicket of the innings and Keemo Paul (20) has to depart. Rohit Sharma takes the third catch of the innings. The skipper is hardly doing anything wrong tonight. WI - 114/8 in 18.5 overs.
SIX! Carlos Brathwaite hits Kuldeep for a maximum. 19 runs, including 3 sixes came from that over and Windies reach 112/7 in 18 overs. The chinaman finishes with 4-0-32-2.
16 overs have been bowled and West Indies 88/7. Carlos Brathwaite (6*) and Keemo Paul (3*) are present into the middle. The visitors need 108 more runs from 24 balls.
After 15 overs, Windies are 84/7. Krunal Pandya ends his quota of four overs for 23/0. He effected a run out though in this innings, so far.
Run Out! Fabian Allen departs without scoring as a direct hit from Krunal Pandya ends his stay. Miscommunication between Allen and Brathwaite costs the former. WI - 81/7 after 13.5 overs.
Wicket! Denesh Ramdin flicks Bhuvneshwar Kumar towards but finds Rohit Sharma. He has to depart for 10. WI - 81/6.
4 byes! Krunal Pandya - the spinner - bowls a bouncer to Carlos Brathwaite and wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was surprised with that and couldn't keep it. That bouncer took everyone by surprise.
India lose review! India go upstairs to review the LBW appeal against Ramdin but the ball tracker showed it was missing the leg stumps. WI 71/5 after 12.1 overs against India.
Wicket! Kieron Pollard top-edges the brilliantly directed short-pitched ball from Jasprit Bumrah and he takes an easy catch off his own bowling. It's the second time the Mumbai Indians' batsman has been dismissed by his MI teammate. Krunal in the last game, this time it's Bumrah. Pollard departs for 6 this time. WI - 68/5.
Rohit gets praised for his brilliant reflex catch at slip. Master Blaster has a word of praise for the skipper.

Four! Kieron Pollard hits Kuldeep straight down the ground and the ball raced towards long-off boundary for four. West Indies have reached 67/4 after 10 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav makes the immediate impact in his very first over as he gets two in it. 7.3 - Darren Bravo (23) edges and Rohit takes a superb catch at slip. Rohit had a reaction time of 0.41 seconds. WI - 48/3. 7.6 - Cleans up Nicolas Pooran with a wrong'un. The new-man-in departs for 4. Windies - 52/4 after 8 overs.
Wicket! Shimron Hetmyer tries to clear Khaleel Ahmed over long-on but failed to time it well and Shikhar Dhawan takes a simple catch at long-on. Second consecutive wicket for Khaleel. WI - 33/2 after 5.3 overs.
After 5 overs, Windies have reached 29/1.
0,0Wd,0,1,4,0,4 = 10 runs came from that over. Shimron Hetmyer hits two brilliant boundaries off Khaleel Ahmed. He hadn't hit any four prior to this over and now he has hit 2. His team needs more big shots from him. WI - 23/1 after 4 overs
0,0,0,1,1,0! Just two runs conceded by Bhuvneshwar Kumar from his second over. The knuckle-balls were already into the use from the pacer, especially after being hit for a maximum in the first over. WI - 13/1 after 3 overs.
Windies are 11/1 after 2 overs. Darren Bravo opened his account with a boundary.
Wicket! Khaleel Ahmed cleans up Shai Hope for 6 as the batsman missed the ball completely and the ball castled into the stumps. Windies - 7/1 after 1.3 overs.
6 runs came from the first over! Shai Hope opens his and team's account with a maximum off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. It wasn't a bad delivery but credit to the batsman for playing a fine shot straight over the bowler's head. WI - 6/0 after 1 over.
Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer - the in-form West Indies batsmen - are opening the innings. Hetmyer hasn't opened the innings before but he's a good batsman in the powerplays. Bhuvneshwar Kumar starts with the new ball for India.

Dropped! KL Rahul gets a breather as Pollard couldn't hold on to the running catch. Keemo Paul bowled a tidy over as he conceded just 6 from it. India - 175/2 after 19 overs. Can Rohit reach his 3rd T20I ton tonight, he's 8 short.
