Injured Ashwin ruled out of Deodhar Trophy

Ankit Bawne to lead India 'A' in the injury enforced absence of R Ashwin in the Deodhar Trophy

R Ashwin

Bengaluru, March 1: India 'A' captain R Ashwin was ruled out of the Deodhar Trophy, to be held in Dharamshala from March 4 to 9, with a niggle.

The selectors have named Ankit Bawne as the new captain of India 'A'. In the squad, Ashwin will be replaced by Jharkhand left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem.

Nadeem was included in the Rest of India squad for the Irani Trophy to be held in Nagpur from March 14 to 18.

Bawne was originally drafted into the India 'B' squad to be led by Shreyas Iyer. Now, with Bawne being named as India 'A' skipper, Akshdeep Nath has been moved from 'A' squad to 'B'.

It may be recalled that Ashwin was also named as skipper of the Kings XI Punjab recently by team mentor Virender Sehwag, giving the Tamil Nadu off-spinner preference over local man Yuvraj Singh.
