IPL 2015: BCCI cautions players over spot fixing; explains how female fans are planted by bookies

New Delhi, Apr 14: In an attempt to prevent its cash rich Indian Premier League (IPL) from getting mired into yet another menace of match fixing, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cautioned the players against falling prey to honey traps.

As per a report published in India Today, Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of BCCI has explained the players of different franchises how modus operandi of bookies and honeytraps are used to lure cricketers into spot fixing.

As per officials, it is generally seen that fixers try to zero-in on vulnerable youngsters or domestic players who are not accustomed to fame and adulation.

The honeytraps first approach them as a fan and then try to get intimate with them and make an MMS. Once this aim is achieved, the fixers start blackmailing the player to subdue to their demands else face consequence of MMS leak.

This how the fixers generally work and the BCCI has cautioned the players on this particular issue. As per reports, in order to protect players from falling into traps of honey traps like these, the BCCI has even allowed the cricketers spend time with their girl friends in the hotels as well as in the team bus.

All this comes in the wake of recent reports that a Rajasthan Royals player was approached for spot fixing by a Ranji player. This shocking report came just three days after the 8th edition of the tournament had begun.

The approach was made last month and the incident was reported to the Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to a private news channel, the player is based in Mumbai. Now the ACSU is investigating the matter.

In 2013, RR player and World Cup winner S Sreesanth was banned for life by BCCI for his alleged involvement in spot-fixing IPL matches.
