Hyderabad, May 12: Mumbai Indians held on to their nerves till the final ball and defeated Chennai Super Kings by a narrow marging of 1 run as they clinched their fourth title in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 here at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday (May 12).
With this win, Rohit Sharma's boys won the match by a narrow margin of 1 run. They had also won the IPL 2017 final by 1 run when they defeated the Rising Pune Supergiants by 1 run.
Mumbai have now won four out of the five finals they have been part of and CSK ended up on the losing side on three occasions (2013, 2015 and 2019).
Chasing a sub-par total of 150 in the stipulated 20 overs, Chennai could only amass 148 after their bowlers restricted a quality Mumbai batting line-up to 149/8.
With 9 runs needed from the final over, Sri Lanka's veteran pacer Lasith Malinga showed his experience and skills to defend the total. With two runs needed from the final delivery and 1 required for the Super Over, Malinga trapped Shardul Thakur in front as the Mumbai Indians broke into celebration.
Shane Watson scored a brilliant 80 for Chennai Super Kings in the run chase but he was dismissed run out in the final over. Earlier, MS Dhoni was also run out for 2 and that changed the momentum of the game.
Here's how the IPL FINAL between MI and CSK panned out:

Thakur gets two - 2 needed to win, 1 for Super Over!
Another Run Out! Shane Watson departs for 80. CSK 145/5 in 19.4 overs. Brilliant throw from Krunal in the deep and Watson was way short of his crease as De Kock dislodged the stumps. 4 needed from 2 balls. This match isn't for the faint-hearted.
2 runs on the 3rd delivery. 5 needed from 3 balls.
Malinga gives a single on the first ball. 8 needed from 5 balls.
Four!! Quinton de Kock fumbles and concedes a four on the final ball off Bumrah over. CSK - 141/5 in 19 overs. 9 needed from 6 balls.
Wicket! Jasprit Bumrah (15) strikes again and Dwayne Bravo has been caught behind. CSK - 133/5 in 18.2 overs. Just when it seemed CSK were in control, Bumrah has once again proved do not sign Mumbai off.
20 runs came from that over bowled by Krunal. CSK - 132/4 after 18 overs. 18 required from 12 balls. Bumrah will bowl the 19th over.
SIX!! Hat-trick of SIXES from Watson. The third one sailed way back into the stands.
SIX!! Shane Watson hits Krunal Pandya over extra-cover for a maximum.
Jasprit Bumrah as he concedes just 4 from it. CSK - 112/4 in 17 overs. 38 needed from 18 balls. Is it too late for CSK already? Bumrah has one more over to go and he looks almost unplayable tonight. He's conceded just 9 from his 3 overs so far.
Dropped! Rahul Chahar puts down a sitter and gives a breather to Watson. Bumrah had got the big man out immediately after being brought back into the attack. It was a regulation catch and should have been taken.
Big over for CSK as 20 came from it. Chennai reach 108/4 in 16 overs. They need 42 from 24 balls.
Fifty! Back-to-back boundaries from Shane Watson off Malinga and he gets to his half-century.
CSK - 88/4 in 15 overs. Just 3 came from McClenaghan's over. Runs are not coming easily for CSK and the run chase is getting very tough for them. Mumbai are always a dangerous bowling side and they are showing it. 62 needed from 30 balls.
CSK - 85/4 after 14 overs. Rahul Chahar ends his spell with brilliant figures of 4-0-14-1. CSK are in deep trouble as they need 65 off 36 balls. Bumrah and Malinga will be bowling in the death overs. Looks this game is Mumbai's for the taking.
I don't know who'll win this match, but I do know that Rahul Chahar will play for India. What a spell in a big final. He started MI's comeback!

Big Wicket! MS Dhoni (2) has been run out while attempting a second run. This game has turned upside down. The direct hit from Ishan Kishan has brought his team in the driver's seat. CSK - 82/4.
Four! Shane Watson ends Rahul Chahar's over with a boundary. MS Dhoni got off the mark after facing 7 balls. CSK - 79/3 in 12 overs. The required rate has climbed to 9 runs per over.
1 run and the wicket of Ambati Rayudu came from that over bowled by Bumrah. CSK - 73/3 after 11 overs. Mumbai have tightened the screws now.
Wicket! Ambati Rayudu (1) has been caught behind by Quinton de Kock. Jasprit Bumrah has given his team another quick wicket. CSK have lost two wickets in two overs. CSK - 73/3 in 10.3 overs. Rohit Sharma and his boys are not giving it up easily.
Just 2 singles and the big wicket of Suresh Raina came from that over bowled by Rahul Chahar. Mumbai Indians are looking to turn things around in their favour with a couple of good overs. CSK - 72/2 in 10 overs.
Wicket! Rahul Chahar traps Suresh Raina (8) in front. Raina also wastes the review as the ball-tracking confirmed all three reds. Bad move from Raina. CSK - 70/2 in 9.2 overs.
Dropped! Shane Watson (33) top-edges McClenaghan and the ball went high up in the air towards the leg side. Lasith Malinga - the fielder - couldn't catch it while running backwards. It seemed as if he wasn't looking to catch that one.
Four! Nobody moved!! Shane Watson powerfully hits McClenaghan down the ground and the ball races towards the fence like a tracer bullet.
Brilliant start from Rahul Chahar as he concedes just 3 from his first over. CSK - 60/1 after 8 overs. They need 90 more runs from 72 balls.
4 runs conceded by McClenaghan from his second over. He's been economical tonight. CSK - 57/1 after 7 overs. Rohit Sharma has introduced his spinner Rahul Chahar into the attack as they eye wickets.
Not Out! Raina (4) has been given Out caught behind off Mitchell McClenaghan. It was a well-directed bouncer and everyone appealed for the wicket. Umpire agrees with the fielding side and raises his finger. Raina goes upstairs immediately and ultra edge shows no spike. DRS saves the batsman.
CSK reach 53/1 after 6 overs in the run chase of 150. Watson and Raina are in the middle.
