Kolkata, March 27: It was the second consecutive win for Kolkata Knight Riders and Andre Russell once again emerged as the X-factor between the two sides as Dinesh Karthik-led defeated Kings XI Punjab by 28 runs here at Eden Gardens on Wednesday (March 27) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 encounter.
Russell enthralled the cricket-crazy Kolkata crowd with his monstrous hits before Nitish Rana (63) and Robin Uthappa (67*) slammed brilliant half-centuries. Openers Chris Lynn (10) and Sunil Narine (24) were dismissed quickly in the powerplay but Rana and Uthappa's partnership followed by Russell's big hits powered the hosts to a massive total of 218/4.

Russell was dismissed for 4 off Mohammed Shami but an elementary captaincy blunder from R Ashwin cost them dearly. The umpire signalled it a No Ball because there were only 3 fielders in the 30-yard circle. The big-hitting Jamaican switched the gears from that moment and bludgeoned Punjab bowlers.
The Jamaican ended up scoring 48 off 17 balls. His innings was laced with three boundaries and five humongous sixes. Rana - who slammed a fifty in the previous game as well - smashed more sixes (7) than Russell.
In response, Kings XI Punjab lost their openers KL Rahul (1) and Chris Gayle (20) in the powerplay itself. Their middle-order batsmen Mayank Agarwal (58) and David Miller (59*) hit sublime half-centuries but their effort wasn't enough for them to overhaul the target of 219.
Punjab could only muster 190/4 in stipulated 20 overs and eventually fell 28 runs short. Russell (21/2) also performed well with the ball and bagged the wickets of Gayle and Sarfaraz (13). Kuldeep Yadav (4-0-32-0) remained wicketless but the chinaman was the most economical bowler for KKR.
