SUPER OVER:
Mumbai's death overs' specialist, Jasprit Bumrah bowled the Super Over for his team and Manish Pandey was dismissed run out on the first delivery while attempting a second run. Later Mohammed Nabi hit Bumrah for a maximum after Martin Guptill joined the senior Afghanistan all-rounder into the middle. Bumrah came back strongly on the fourth delivery of the over and clean bowled Nabi as SRH could only post 8/2 in 4 balls.
MI needed to score 8 runs or more by losing just one wicket. But Hardik Pandya had other ideas as he dispatched Rashid Khan for a maximum on the very first ball of the over. Along with Keiron Pollard, Hardik scored 3 more runs on the next two deliveries and seal the game.
MI through to the play-offs
With this win, MI became third team, after Chennai and Delhi, to qualify into the play-offs with 16 points from 13 games. While the SRH are in the fourth spot with 12 points from 13 matches.
Earlier in the day, Rohit Sharma elected to bat first after winning the toss at the fresh Wankhede pitch. In-form South African opener Quinton de Kock remained unbeaten 69 off 58 deliveries as economical bowling effort from Sunrisers spinners followed by clinical effort from their pacers in the death overs restricted Mumbai to 162/5 in the stipulated 20 overs.
Khaleel Ahmed (3/42) was pretty expensive but picked up three wickets for the visitors. Senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/29) along with spinners Rashid Khan (0/21) and Mohammed Nabi (1/24) were brilliant with their spells to ensure the star-studded Mumbai side posts a sub-par total.
In response, Sunrisers - despite the absence of their batting mainstay, David Warner - were off to a brisk start as Wriddhiman Saha (25 off 15) started proceedings on the dominant note in the powerplay. But he and Martin Guptill (15) were both dismissed in the powerplay and the onus lied on the shoulders of the out-of-form middle order.
Manish Pandey waged a lone battle with his knock and almost took his team across the line but he didn't get the kind of support he needed from the other end early on in the innings.
Here's how the match between MI and SRH panned out:
Jasprit Bumrah, Man of the Match: Sometimes the mind can get too negative, but I would like to focus on the ball which I have to bowl and try to keep clarity. If you are clear about the ball you are going to execute and you set the field accordingly and try to keep it as simple as possible. There's always pressure but I think what does the team require of me, so I'm just thinking one ball at a time and what I have to do on that particular ball. We always talk as we have faced a lot of pressure situations and they (seniors) try to guide us. In the end, it's your own decision because if you back your own decision that's the best way to go and going forward backing yourself is always helping.
Rohit Sharma, the winning captain: Feels good knowing that we are amongst the top four now. Not easy to come through the ranks and we have played some consistent cricket throughout and we have the results for it. We wanted to put runs on the board, the pitch played good for all 40 overs and runs on the board is crucial and I knew that we didn't get the score we wanted but we knew if we get early wickets we can put the pressure on their middle order. Manish batted really well and he played some excellent shots but I think the game changing moment was the eight overs of spin. They bowled very well and contained the batsmen which was very important at that stage. He's (Bumrah) been brilliant for us and he keeps improving every game and he is hungry for success. He wants to be out there and express himself and he understands that he is a lead bowler for us. He held the nerve in the crucial overs and in the Super Over as well. We got some work to do in the batting department, Quinny has been good but we need help from the other batters. The confidence is there and we need to understand what's the par score at a venue and I thought we did 70-80 percent of the basics right in the batting, only few games we let our batting collapse a little bit but we are hoping to get better.
Mumbai are the second most consistent team to make it to the play-offs after CSK in 12 years. CSK were banned for 2 years as well.

Williamson, losing captain: I have experience of few Super Overs and that time too, I finished on the wrong side. It was a fantastic effort by Manish and Nabi to get us so close. The first half was very good for us, our bowlers did a brilliant job. We just couldn't get over the line. We were waiting to see how many runs we will be able to get in the Super Over. When it was eight, we decided to go with Rashid. He is world-class in everything he does so we thought he is our man. Manish has got a great rhythm to his game now. It is a shame for us that we ended up on the wrong side today. We have one game left and it is important that we approach that in a similar way.
Mumbai held on to their nerves well.
Taut game, among best I’ve seen. Hyderabad couldn’t make capital of opportunity created by Pandey. Credit to Bumrah. Tight over under pressure. However, getting even 8-10 runs in Super Over can be tough. @mipaltan hold nerve to make it to the play-offs. Well done Rohit & Co
