IPL 2020 Final: MI vs DC Highlights: Trent Boult, Rohit Sharma guide Mumbai Indians to record fifth title

Dubai, November 10: Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians managed to defend their title as they defeated Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets in the one-sided IPL 2020 Final in Dubai. This is their fifth title and first while chasing in the history of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma (68) and Trent Boult (3/30) starred for the defending champions in the marquee clash and ensured their team never let the game slip away from their grip at any stage of the game.

After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals were once again off to a disastrous start as Trent Boult dismissed Marcus Stoinis and Ajinkya Rahane early and brought Mumbai on top. In-form Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed by Jayant Yadav for 15 and pushed Delhi on the back foot.

Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant slammed fifty and shared a solid stand of 96 but another clinical show by Mumbai bowlers helped them restrict the holders to a below-par 156/7 in stipulated 20 overs.

In response, Rohit with his opening partner Quinton de Kock gave Mumbai an explosive start and their 45-run opening stand gave their team just the start they needed in a run chase.

Rohit - who was dismissed for a duck in Qualifier 1 against the same side - rose to the occasion and led his team from the front to lay the foundation for a clinical run chase. Ishan Kishan (33*) remained unbeaten and ended the season as the leading run-getter for his team in the tournament.

Mumbai, however, lost Kieron Pollard (9) and Hardik Pandya (3) near the fag end of the run chase but those setbacks didn't matter as they reached home in 18.4 overs.

Both the teams finished as the top two sides in the league-stage and locked horns for the fourth time this season with the title up for grabs in Dubai. In three meetings between the two sides earlier this season, MI won all the three previous clashes and the Men in Blue and gold made it 4-0.

DC - who made it to their maiden IPL final - couldn't just crack the code on how to beat MI in the tournament.
