Delhi Capitals clinch low-scoring thriller against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021

Dubai, October 4: Shimron Hetmyer and Axar Patel shine as Delhi Capitals clinch low-scoring thriller against Chennai Super Kings in Match 50 of IPL 2021 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Monday (October 4).

Chasing a modest target of 137, DC reached 139 for seven in 19.4 overs with Shikhar Dhawan top-scoring with a 35-ball 39, while Shimron Hetmyer contributed a vital 28.

Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets apiece while Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo and Josh Hazlewood got one each.

Earlier, invited to bat, CSK posted 136 for five in their allotted 20 overs. Ambati Rayudu top-scored for CSK with an unbeaten 55 off 43 balls while Robin Uthappa contributed 19 runs.

Spinner Axar Patel took two wickets for 18 runs while Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan and Ravichandran Ashwin took a wicket apiece.

In response to CSK's 136/5, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw (18 off 12 balls) got DC off to a fast start before they lost wickets regularly to let CSK back in the match.

Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Ashwin didn't contirbute much, but debutant Ripal Patel scored 18 off 20 balls. And once he got out, Dhawan quickly followed to put DC in a spot of bother.

However, Hetmyer and Axar Patel stitched together a match-winning stand of 36 from 27 balls before Kagiso Rabada knocked off the winning runs with a boundary.

Shardul Thakur (2 for 13 in 4 overs) was the pick of the bowlers for CSK, while Ravindra Jadeja also took 2 wickets. Also among the wickets were, Deepak Chahar, Dwayne bravo and Josh Hazlewood, who took a wicket-a-piece.


Both CSK and DC have already qualified for the play-offs. But this victory meant DC topple CSK to the top of the table with 20 points on board from 13 matches.
