Bengaluru, April 29: Prithvi Shaw played a stupendous knock as Delhi Capitals romped to a seven-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
In match no. 25. Delhi shone with both bat and ball, but the young Shaw stole everyone’s thunder with a sizzling 82 off 41. With Thursday’s win the Capitals climb back to the second spot on the points table while KKR remain fifth.
After electing to bat, the Capitals bowlers put up a clinical display to restrict the Knight Riders to 154/6.
While Shubman Gill put up a modest 43 off 38, wickets tumbled at the other end. The KKR middle-order once again failed as Lalit Yadav removed captain Eoin Morgan and Sunil Narine for ducks in the same over.
Birthday boy Andre Russell’s fighting unbeaten knock of 45 off 27 saw the Knights cross the 150-mark.
But the Capitals’ innings was a complete contrast to KKR’s struggle, as Shaw notched up 25 runs off the first over. After a wide on the first ball, Shaw hit Shivam Mavi for six consecutive boundaries to get Delhi’s chase off to a rocking start. And the onslaught continued as Delhi effortlessly chased down the score.
Shaw’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan played the perfect role on the other end as he watched Shaw hammer the KKR bowlers. Dhawan scored a patient 46 off 47. But with Shaw in raring form the game was in Delhi’s pocket from the onset. Despite Cummins’ three-wicket haul, Delhi chased down the total with 21 balls to spare.
